I captured this Yoga Mudra or Hast Mudra or Hand Gesture at the Airport of India.
A Mudra is a symbolic hand gesture used in Hindu and Buddhist iconography, performing arts, and spiritual practice, including yoga, dance, drama, and tantra.
The Mayur MUDRA
Taking stairs down to the immigration at the grand Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, the wall mounted hand gestures catch every traveler's eye. Not just a piece of art, these gestures are often used in the Indian classical dances to depict creatures and situations. Even in Yoga – physical, mental, and spiritual practices that aim to soothe and pacify a person – these gestures are used during meditation that directs the flow of energy into one’s body.
In Pataka hasta mudra when you bring together the tips of the ring finger and the thumb, the Mayura mudra is formed. The word 'mayur' means peacock and is often used to depict the bird, but in Indian classical dance forms, it is can...
Art for me is a journey of the soul that never ends. To make this journey beautiful and lively I am painting the path for others to walk on happily. Born and brought up in India, a land of Art, Culture and spirituality, I got the love for art from my father, who was a great appreciator of my paintings and inherited the love for life from my mother. They both were strong believers of God. My father would sing prayers daily with one of his musical instrument and my mother would perform Hawan daily. And so my paintings reflect a very musical and spiritual feel. The human faces I paint, have angelic expressions. My family was very conservative, so I was confided to my city where I pursued my Bachelor and later Master’s degree in FINE ARTS....

In Pataka hasta mudra when you bring together the tips of the ring finger and the thumb, the Mayura mudra is formed. The word 'mayur' means peacock and is often used to depict the bird, but in Indian classical dance forms, it is can also be used to depict decorating the forehead, In yoga, this mudra is called the Prithvi (Earth) mudra. Meditating in this mudra helps increase patience, tolerance, and concentration. Also, it helps reduce weakness and dullness of mind.
Joel Bruce Wallach
